Raising The Table
Rainwater Harvesting at Goa University
Project commencement date: June 10, 2018
Project completion date: July 25, 2018
Quantity of rainwater harvested: Per month: 2,62,500 litres; Per year: 7,87,500 litres.
System set up by AlterEnergyZ:
- Roof of new Science Faculty building used for project. Rainwater collected on this roof channelled through down-take pipes into preliminary siltation chamber.
- First flush valve installed on common down-take pipe allows water of first few rains to be flushed to get rid of all dirt accumulated on roof.
- Preliminary filtration chamber allows for settling of all solid particles/dirt so only filtered water passes through to filtration chamber.
- Filtration chamber has 3 layers of filter: sand, silex and pebble; filter media is differently sized to allow maximum filtration.
- Filtered water passes through final level of filtration, a V-wire mesh, before going to the borewell 80 metres deep.
